CHILE'S WILD PATAGONIA: RESCHEDULED FOR FALL 2010$2895Our hearts go out to all of those affected by the recent massive earthquake in Chile. Out of sensitivity to the impact of this devastation, we are postponing this trip to the fall and will announce dates when they become available. If you are interested in being the first to know details, please sign up for our email newsletter and indicate Patagonia in the destination field. This will be an adventure for the rough and rugged, with some physical labor outdoors for a future national park in a remote region at the southern tip of South America. The rewards will be spectacularly rugged incredible scenery, a truly unique experience in one of the only remaining truly wild areas in the world and fantastic adventure. We will be working with Conservacion Patagonica to help develop the future Patagonia National Park. With over 400 miles of habitat-fragmenting fencing to tear down, invasive exotic plants to eradicate, and other restoration projects to implement, volunteers will perform hands-on work that will make a difference for generations to come. Initiated in 2004 with the purchase of Estancia Valle Chacabuco, (173,000 acres) the eventual creation of a new national park in the Patagonia region is and will continue to be the major focus of Conservacion Patagonica for the next eight years. A portion of proceeds from the trip will also be earmarked for the project. We also welcome donations. Reserve your spot on this trip by registering now. Limit of 12 participants, so register early. ITINERARYDay 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 Day 9 Day 10 Day 11 Day 12 Day 13 Day 14 Background Created in 2000, Conservacion Patagonica has already placed 460,000 acres of critical Patagonian habitat into permanent protection. They havesuccessfully created one Argentine national park, and are in the process of creating a second in Chile. The organization was founded by American conservationist Kristine Tompkins and a board of directors comprised of conservation and business luminaries. The former longtime CEO of the Patagonia clothing company, Kris Tompkins has lived in South America for many years, devoting her time to land and wildlife conservation projects. Under her leadership, Conservacion Patagonica has protected roughly 450,000 acres, and created one new national park in Argentina. Over the past two decades, she has worked with her husband, businessman and philanthropist Douglas Tompkins, to create new protected natural areas in Chile and Argentina totaling more than two million acres. The campaign to create the future Patagonia National Park in Chile’s Chacabuco Valley is Conservacion Patagonica’s flagship project—an unparalleled opportunity to establish a new, world-class national park in one of the most spectacularly beautiful and wild places left on Earth.
